Hois: Township leads effort to inform, provide cost-effective programs
The Downers Grove Township has increased its efforts to provide updates and information about township services and programs that will help to make your lives a bit easier, and in some cases, may even save you money.
1. Electricity aggregation: This pending program will allow unincorporated area residents and small business owners in Downers Grove Township – who don’t opt out – to receive a lower-than‐ComEd electric supply rate of 5.920 cents per kilowatt hour through the December 2014 meter read date from MC Squared Energy Services (mc2), the electricity supplier selected by the township after an extensive bidding process. More information about mc2 is available at www.dgtownship.com under the Quick Link “Electricity Aggregation.”
2. The new Downers Grove Township Brochure describes the roles, responsibilities and services provided by the township supervisor, town clerk, trustees, assessor’s office, general assistance, highway department, human services, and nonprofit foundations for senior citizens and two cemeteries. The brochure features a full‐color map showing the township’s boundaries, which include the communities of Burr Ridge, Clarendon Hills, Hinsdale, Darien, Downers Grove, Lemont, Westmont, Willowbrook and Woodridge. The supervisor sends a “welcome to the township” letter and the new brochure to new residents, with brush pick‐up information for those who live in the unincorporated areas.
3. The ongoing electronic recycling program is a valuable service provided by the Downers Grove Township Highway Department that allows residents of township households to properly dispose of unwanted electronics – at no cost to taxpayers. If you live in the township, you may bring your old computers, laptops, monitors, keyboards, TVs, copiers, fax machines, phone systems, handheld devices and other electronic equipment to 318 E. Quincy St. in Westmont on the third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to noon. For further information, please call the Highway Dept. at 630‐719‐6625 or go to www.dgtownship.com.
4. Coast2CoastRx discount cards: The township distributes free discount prescription cards in conjunction with WellDyne Rx to help consumers save money on prescription medications if their prescriptions aren’t covered by insurance. The discount cards may be used locally and across the nation at participating retail pharmacies. Discounts may vary depending upon the drug and quantity purchased.
