GLEN ELLYN – Weather and ice conditions permitting, the Glen Ellyn Speed Skating Team and the Glen Ellyn Park District will be holding novice ice skating races at Lake Ellyn every Saturday morning beginning on Jan. 11.

Skaters between the ages of 4 and 12 are welcome to compete, and any type of skates may be worn.

Skaters must register and their parents sign a waiver form at the Lake Ellyn boathouse between 9 and 9:30 a.m., with races to begin at 10 a.m.. Ribbons will be awarded for the top four place finishers. There is no charge for participation.

The races are a volunteer activity run by members of the Glen Ellyn Speed Skating Team. The entire program will take less than one hour. Volunteer assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The Novice Ice Skating Races are a continuation of a wonderful tradition originally started by the late Bill Lussie in the 1930s.

For specific information on ice conditions at Lake Ellyn, phone the Glen Ellyn Park District at 630-984-5075, ext. 13.
