High schools are just getting back in the swing of things for the new year after a slow weekend of high school sports. However, college teams don't slow down during the holiday season. Area basketball products are showcasing their talents for a variety of schools at different levels. Here's a look at how some of them are doing so far this season.
Local pair lead Lewis men
The Lewis University men's basketball team is ranked in the top 25 in Division II and has two area products to thank for that. Senior Ryan Jackson (Riverside Brookfield) leads the team with 20.6 points per game and is second on the Flyers with six rebounds per game. Jackson is shooting 43.9 percent from 3-point land.
Junior Jeff Jarosz (Morton) is also a regular starter averaging 12.1 points and just under four assists per contest.
The Flyers are 8-0 in regular season games and even beat Division I Loyola in a preseason exhibition.
Zeisloft starting at Illinois State
Lyons Township grad Nick Zeisloft is getting starting minutes for Illinois State. The Redbird junior has 10 starts in 14 games for ISU and is averaging 6.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest.
Henry seeing regular minutes at U. of Mary
Damonta Henry (Riverside Brookfield) has adjusted well to college ball at the University of Mary. The freshman guard has made seven starts and played in all 13 games for the Division II Marauders. Henry is averaging 9.8 points, third on the team, and leads the team in three-pointers made (20) and free throw percentage (86.4).
Burt starting for Bears
Junior forward Nick Burt (Lyons Township) has started every game for Washington University in St. Louis. Burt is fourth on the team with 4.5 rebounds and fifth with 8.3 points per game. The Bears are 9-2 and ranked in the top 10 in Division III.
Perez getting feet wet for Maroons
Through 11 games, University of Chicago freshman Waller Perez (Morton) had played in seven games, averaging 4.9 minutes per game. He is scoring 2.4 points per game and averaging just under one rebound per contest.
Kougars getting freshman boost from Davis
Kishwaukee College freshman Ashanti Davis (Lyons Township) has been a nice addition to the Kougars' this season. The guard is a regular starter and is third on the team with 12.2 points per game.
Beck seeing time for Roosevelt women
Sara Beck (Lyons Township) has played in nine games for Roosevelt this season, coming off the bench to average 3.7 minutes per game. In her limited minutes, Beck is averaging 2.7 points and 1.2 rebounds.
