HINSDALE – A Downers Grove couple's first child was also the first baby born at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital in 2014, about three hours after the new year rang in.

Emma Grace Amezcua was born at 2:56 a.m. Wednesday to Jillian Bryant and Javier Amezcua of Downers Grove.

"Her water broke like first thing in the morning New Year's Eve, so we were thinking maybe by noon, but that didn't happen," Javier Amezcua said.

Bryant said she was "very excited" to learn Emma was the first baby born in the new year at Adventist Hinsdale. The newborn girl weighs in at 9 pounds, 2 ounces and is 21 inches long.

"She's big," Bryant said with a laugh as the couple admired Emma in her new poke-a-dot green hoodie with pink mittens. "And she looks older, I think because of the hair."

Amezcua said the couple knew the gender of the baby a few months beforehand and was relieved to learn they'd be expecting a girl.

"Good thing she's a girl because we never agreed on a boy's name," Amezcua said.

Emma was delivered by Dr. Jody Lin. The couple also received a gift basket from Adventist Hinsdale staff to celebrate the baby's birth.
