Prep roundup: Joseph’s boys hoops undefeated run ends

St. Joseph’s boys basketball team maintained its undefeated record all the way to the semifinals of the Proviso West Holiday Tournament, but the Chargers lost to Stevenson and Bogan at the end of the tourney to finish fourth.

Following the 69-67 overtime loss to Bogan in the third place game, St. Joseph’s record was 11-2. Jordan Ash and Glynn Watson were both named second-team all-tournament.


Riverside Brookfield

After finishing 2-2 at the Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament, the Bulldogs will host Glenbard South on Friday. Will Kincanon was an all-tournament selection at the Tosh. RB is 8-4.


The Friars lost the fifth place game at the Proviso West Holiday Tournament to finish with a 3-2 record.

Fenwick advanced to the quarterfinals with wins over Von Steuben (60-26) and Auburn (63-50) before losing to Morgan Park 77-60.

The Friars beat Providence St. Mel 56-46 in the consolation bracket and then lost to Proviso East 59-51 to finish the tourney.


The Roadrunners gave St. Joseph a run in the Proviso West Holiday Tournament opener, but ultimately lost 60-48 to the Chargers, which took fourth at the tournament.

Naz bounced back with a 53-49 win over Lincoln Park in the consolation bracket before losing to Libertyville 58-57 to close the tournament with a 1-2 record.

The 7-5 Roadrunners return to action Saturday against Hubbard.

Proviso West

The Panthers went 1-2 at their own holiday tournament. Auburn beat the Panthers 79-52 in the first round, but West beat Von Steuben 57-36 to get a win.

Thornton Fractional South edged past the Panthers 64-59 later on.

Khalill Walker averaged 19.7 points per game and led the team in scoring each game.


Lyons Township

LT beat neighboring St. Joseph 62-54 on Saturday. The Lions, which took fourth place at Wheaton North’s Bill Neibch Classic before the new year, are 9-5.

Riverside Brookfield

The Bulldogs lost in the semifinals of their own holiday tournament, 54-45, to Nazareth. RB did bounce back to take third place by beating McHenry 57-41. Freshmen Dana Rettke and Samantha Bloom made the all-tournament team.


The Roadrunners won four games in a row to make the final of the RB Holiday Tournament, but lost to St. Ignatius in the final, 46-35. Jules Raimondi led the team with 12 points in the final. Naz (12-3) returns to action Friday against Regina.

St. Joseph

Following a 14th place finish at the loaded Montini Christmas Tournament, the Chargers fell to Lyons Township 62-54 on Saturday in the first game of 2014. Chanel Brown scored 24 points.


Lyons Township

On Dec. 28, the Lions placed third at Palatine’s 32-team Berman Holiday Wrestling Classic. A.J. Villarreal won the tournament title at 152 pounds with three falls and a major decision.
