Fourth quarter drought sinks Wheaton Academy

Published: Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 6:19 p.m. CDT

HILLSIDE – For three quarters Wheaton Academy played neck-and-neck with New Trier.

The fourth quarter was an entirely different story. The Trevians blitzed the Warriors with a 17-0 run to close the game and win 57-37.

Wheaton Academy (8-3) moves to the consolation bracket of the Proviso West Holiday Tournament where they will play the loser of Stevenson-Urban Prep West at 10 a.m. Friday.

The two teams were tied at 35-35 before New Trier's David Hammes drained a jumper just before the third quarter buzzer. Gordon Behr scored a bucket with 6:21 left in the game to cut New Trier's lead to 40-37 and that was the last the Warriors would score.

Behr led Wheaton Academy with 12 points. Bennett Fuzek added seven points and Josh Ruggles scored six on a pair of three-pointers.
