DuPage County Sheriff reminds residents of new 2014 traffic laws

DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba is reminding residents of new traffic laws being put in place starting Jan. 1 aimed at reducing crashes and distracted driving, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Motorists will soon be banned from using a handheld electronic communication device or a video device application while driving, the release said. Bluetooth capable devices and navigation systems will still be permitted.

There will also be upgraded charges for those under 19 who are charged with aggravated use of a wireless device.
