GLEN ELLYN – The designs of two building renovations on the College of DuPage (COD) campus in Glen Ellyn were honored this year by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Northeast Illinois Chapter’s 2013 Design Awards, according to a news release from the organization.

Out of the 59 entries submitted, 10 projects were recognized for “Excellence in Architecture” and “Merit in Architecture” at an awards ceremony Oct. 10.

Entries were submitted in various categories by architects in suburban Cook, DuPage and Kane counties and judged by a panel of architects.

The designs chosen from COD include the Student Resource Center Facade Renewal, which received a “Merit in Architecture for Distinguished Building under $3 million,” and the Seaton Computing Center, which received a “Merit in Architecture for Distinguished Building over $3 million.”

Both projects were designed by architectural firm Wight and Company, which has offices in Chicago and Darien.

The renovated Seaton Computing Center also recently earned silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the US Green Building Council, according to a college news release.

The Campus Maintenance Center received gold certification.

Other buildings on the campus that have received certification include the Health and Sciences Center, Technical Education Center and Homeland Security Education Center.

COD is seeking LEED certification for additional buildings, including the Berg Instructional Center, Student Resource Center, Physical Education Center, McAninch Arts Center and Culinary and Hospitality Center.
