GLEN ELLYN – The Glen Ellyn Police Department participated in the 15th annual "Shop with a Cop" event Dec. 14, helping children throughout DuPage County have a merry Christmas, according to an email from the village of Glen Ellyn.

Shop with a Cop provided the children with $125 to purchase presents and essentials for themselves and their family.

The event was organized by the police department in partnership with the Glen Ellyn Park District and the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

More than 75 police officers from local departments participated in the event.

The children started the day by having breakfast with Santa Claus provided by Chicks 'n Salsa and by participating in games and activities at Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center. They then drove with the police officers in their squad cars to Meijer in Bloomingdale for Christmas shopping.

Organizations and businesses that made the event possible include the Glen Ellyn Park District, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, Meijer, Chicks 'n Salsa, the Ron Aubrey family, Jewel, Caribou Coffee, the Glen Ellyn Rotary Club, the Glen Ellyn Parks Foundation, the Glenbard West High School Key Club and the Glenbard South High School Key Club.
