Train hits pedestrian in Glen Ellyn

GLEN ELLYN – A pedestrian was hit by an eastbound Metra train in Glen Ellyn shortly after 2 p.m. Friday, according to officials.

Witnesses told the Glen Ellyn Police Department the man was crossing the train tracks at Main Street when the gates were down, Deputy Police Chief Bill Holmer said.

According to a news release from the police department, witnesses reported the man was crossing northbound from the south side of the tracks when he was hit.

The gates and lights were working properly, the release said.

Glen Ellyn paramedics transported the pedestrian to Good Samaritan Hospital after the incident, which remains under investigation, according to the release.

The man has not been identified and his condition at this time is unknown, Holmer said.
