Glen Ellyn police respond to alleged assault by Hadley student against staff member

GLEN ELLYN – Glen Ellyn police responded to an alleged assault by a Hadley Junior High School student against a staff member Thursday afternoon, according to an email sent to parents by Glen Ellyn School District 41 Superintendent Paul Gordon.

In the email sent Thursday evening, Gordon said the incident occurred during dismissal, and it is now a police matter.

The male sixth-grader has not been charged with anything, but the police investigation is ongoing, Deputy Police Chief Bill Holmer said.

The charging mechanisms are different for minors compared to legal adults, Holmer said.

The student is alleged to have made physical contact with a staff member in response to a disciplinary encounter at the school, he said.

No weapons were involved in the incident, contrary to rumors, Gordon said in the email.

No other information was shared in the email, due to privacy concerns.

"District 41 takes all safety matters seriously. Our communications strive to inform the school community while protecting the privacy of all students and staff," Gordon said in the email. "The Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) states that information that could either directly identify or indirectly be linked to an individual student must be kept private. We must also protect the integrity of any investigation."

Parents are advised to contact their building principal with questions or concerns regarding school safety.
