BOLINGBROOK – Bolingbrook police teamed up with Meijer for the 15th annual Shop with a Cop event on Dec. 17, benefitting around 100 Bolingbrook children.
The Bolingbrook Meijer, 655 East Boughton Road, donated $50 gift cards to each child and more than 50 police officer volunteers helped them pick out toys and other gifts.
The police department thanked Meijer Store Manager Leena Whetstone and Assistant Pam Willis for making the day "an overwhelming success." They also provided free gift wrapping and food for the kids, according to a release.
"I have been involved and coordinated this program since the inception and this was the largest turnout of volunteers we have ever had," Bolingbrook Lt. Mike Rompa said. "Every child really enjoyed this year’s event and the majority were more concerned with buying gifts for others, in lieu of selecting something for themselves.
"It is truly an enlightening experience that brings the Bolingbrook community together."
