BROOKFIELD – A home in the 4300 block of Blanchan Avenue in Brookfield was destroyed by an early morning fire, according to fire officials.

Brookfield fire fighters arrived at the home, located at 4325 Blanchan Ave., at about 5:45 a.m. on Monday. The family had already evacuated the home by the time fire fighters arrived.

According to a fire department spokesman, flames were showing through the home's first floor windows when they arrived. Additional fire crews from neighboring communites were called to help combat the blaze.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, but all five members of the family, including three teenagers, were taken to a local hospital as a precaution. A dog and cat were also rescued from the home, but the cat died later from injuries sustained in the fire.

The fire took a half hour to extinguish, fire officials said. The cause is still unknown and the home is currently uninhabitable.
