Willowbrook girls 10-0 after win over Morton

VILLA PARK – The Willowbrook girls basketball team just keeps winning.

The Warriors made it 10 straight wins to start the season with a 63-37 win over visiting Morton on Tuesday. Willowbrook is now 4-0 in the West Suburban Gold.

Willowbrook led 16-10 after the first quarter and extended the lead with an 18-4 second quarter led by seven points from Olivia Domin in the second.

"They're really athletic," Willowbrook coach Terry Harrell said of Morton. "They look pretty decent. We were just more prepared for it than they were because I think they weren't quite ready for the pace that we have."

The Warriors also dominated on the glass with a 58-28 edge in rebounds. Jada Stills hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds.

Sam Schmidt led Willowbrook with 11 points. She was the team's only double digit scorer in a balanced effort. Domin and Molly Krawczykowski each scored nine. Stills, Lauren Carroll, and Danielle Velasquez all chipped in seven.

Morton (4-7, 1-3 WSG) got 15 points sophomore point guard Chloe Maietta and eight from fellow sophomore Maryam Wilcher.

"Once we start practicing right we'll start playing right," Morton coach Joe Maietta said. "I can see us going on a run starting Friday and then continuing that into Christmas."

Morton plays Downers Grove South on Friday before playing at Riverside Brookfield's holiday tournament. Willowbrook takes on Sycamore Friday before heading to Wheaton North for a holiday tournament.
