Montini’s boys basketball team edged past St. Edward 39-38 on Dec. 13 to set up a big game in the Suburban Christian Gold with IC Catholic tonight.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Montini
After three wins at the Sterling Tournament last weekend, the Lady Broncos will now face Richwoods and Fenwick this Saturday. Montini defeated Moline (55-42), Hononegah (68-40) and Sterling (68-26).
Addison Trail
After losing to Downers Grove South 39-27 on Saturday the Blazers defeated Ridgewood 68-52.
WRESTLING
Glenbard East
After dominating Naperville Central 64-4 on Dec. 13, the Rams went 2-1 at their own quad meet on Saturday. They beat Oswego East 48-21 and Richmond Burton 54-18 while losing to Waubonsie Valley 39-35.
The Rams, 3-0 in the DuPage Valley Conference, travel to powerhouse Glenbard North tonight.
Montini
Edgar Ruano (220 pounds) and Michael Johnson (285) both won tournament titles at a loaded field of national powerhouses at the Walsh Jesuit Ironman Tournament in Ohio.
Addison Trail
Seven Blazer wrestlers placed in the top five, including three finalists, at the Mudge/McMorrow invite on Saturday. Bobby Carson came away with the title at 285 pounds. Niko Rocha (182) and Jake Pleckavic (126) took second to help AT finish fourth.
Willowbrook
Matt Rowland and Jake Kroeger both won titles at Hoffman Estates’ Mickey Marchese Memorial invite on Saturday. Rowland is 20-0 at 152 pounds. Kroeger made his season debut at the tournament to win at 182 pounds.
GIRLS GYMNASTICS
Glenbard East
The Rams were second in a tri-meet on Wednesday. Geneva (135.15) won ahead of the Glenbard East (129.9) and Glenbard South (117.1).
Addison Trail
Tamara Mendez had the Blazers’ best event showing at Hersey’s Michael Meyer Memorial Candy Cane invite on Saturday. Mendez was fourth on bars with an 8.8. Casey Boksha was eighth on floor exercise (8.75).
Willowbrook
Cassidy McFarlane placed ninth in the all-around at the Hersey invite. Her top score came on balance beam (9.05). Her total was 34.025.
HOCKEY
The AWF Renegades, which is comprised of players from Willowbrook, Montini, Fenton and Addison Trail, will compete at the Blackhawk Charities Holiday High School Hockey Tournament beginning on Dec. 26 at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.
