LOMBARD – Most basketball teams spend the holiday break playing at a holiday tournaments but not the Glenbard East girls.

After yesterday’s game against Glenbard North, East is off for 18 days before playing rival Willowbrook on Jan. 7.

“We got some practices going on,” coach Don Finnie said. “We gave the kids some time off because it’s such a long break between our next game.”

The Rams beat Naperville Central 49-40 on Dec. 12 to snap a long losing streak in the DuPage Valley Conference. A week later on Dec. 19 East made it two in a row with a 37-34 win over Glenbard North.

East went winless in the league last year and matched last year’s win total (three) in the process.

“We’ve been in a lot of ball games,” Finnie said. “We just haven’t hit a lot of shots.

“Against Naperville Central, the shots fell and we played well.”

The Rams have three losses by single digits, but previously hadn’t been able to close the gap for a win since the season opener.

Sophomore Brasia Solid led the Rams with 18 points and junior Allison Hansen scored 15 against the Redhawks.
