Timothy Christian senior forward Connor VanderBrug has been a scoring machine for the Trojans so far this season. The Calvin College commit entered Tuesday's game against Riverside Brookfield averaging 20.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. VanderBrug, the Oak Trust Credit Union Athlete of the Week, spoke with sports reporter Dan Santaromita about the team's hot start.

What’s been working for you this season?

I worked pretty hard in the offseason, so numbers are coming there. Other than that, my teammates are setting up to find me.

What did you try to improve during the offseason?

I was just playing a lot. I played with my travel team, the Bulls/Sox Academy team, and was just getting more experienced with a faster-paced game.

What made you want to go to Calvin College?

My whole family has been going there since my dad and my mom. I have two brothers, one there now and one that graduated, and another sister that went through there.

With all that family history, was it much of a decision?

It still was. I still had a tough time deciding with a couple schools that could give me a little financial help. I just felt comfortable at Calvin.

What are hoping for the rest of the season?

I’m just looking forward to getting our team better. We got a lot of guys who can contribute. I think I can really pull this team together.

Do you have any goals going forward?

First it would be a conference championship. Our conference has been dominated by Riverside Brookfield recently. We’re off to a good start.
