Westmont Village Board meeting: 4 things to know

WESTMONT – Westmont trustees discussed a slew of topics at Thursday's village board meeting.

A complete video of the meeting is also available online at the Village's website –

Here are four things to know from the meeting:

Property tax levy finalized

The Village of Westmont held a public hearing during Thursday's meeting regarding the property tax levy. The hearing outlined a proposed levy amount of $8,084,746.

With this amount, residents should expect to face about a $1.05 hike per month, according to Finance Director Spencer Parker.

The tax levy was unanimously approved.

Krimson Security coming soon

The business, opening soon at 15 S. Cass Ave., will specialize in private fingerprinting and background checks.

Owner Ryan Kern is a Westmont resident and military veteran, according to a village document. His business will utilize an inkless electronic system to capture fingerprints and demographics data, specifically for companies who wish to screen potential employees.

The roughly 300-square-foot office includes a private parking lot that meets village requirements.

"I was able to talk with the landlord and visit the spot and I think [the business] is a perfect fit," Trustee Harold Barry III said before the board OK'ed business permits.

The Rail Barber Shop to open

Barber Steven Matthews hopes to open a second location of his The Rail Barber Shop in Westmont at 20 W. Burlington Ave.

Matthews told trustees, who approved his business permits, he was expecting to open within the next week or two.

The Rail Barber Shop, strictly for men, will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Endure It! Sports

Endure It! Sports is also planning an expansion. The high-end bicycle shop is planning to open a second location at 37 W. Quincy St. in Westmont.

Owner David Fix said the Westmont shop will replace his previous store in Willowbrook.

With the approval, the board moved to allow the store to offer special cycling classes in the early morning hours. Fix said the quiet gym classes would mainly be for the winter season.

Fix told officials his shop should be ready to open within the next week or two.
