State court upholds firing of Drew Peterson's son

OAK BROOK – A state appellate court has ruled in support of the firing of Drew Peterson's son from the Oak Brook Police Department for not sharing relevant information during an investigation into the disappearance of his father's fourth wife, according to media reports.

Stephen Peterson, 34, was fired from the police department in 2011 after he didn't tell Illinois State Police investigators that his father gave him checks totaling more than $200,000 after Stacy disappeared, media reports stated. Peterson also didn't share that his father had asked him to care for his younger siblings if anything were to happen to him, according to media reports.

Officials also said Peterson took three of his father's weapons so that they would not be taken during a search of Drew Peterson's home, media reports stated.

On Friday, the Illinois Second Appellate District upheld Stephen Peterson's firing because he showed "poor judgment" after Stacy Peterson disappeared, according to media reports.

Drew Peterson was found guilty last year of drowning his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in 2004, and while he has not been charged in Stacy's disappearance, officials say he is currently the only suspect, according to media reports.
