DuPage County Health Department names community health director as new department head
DuPage County Health Department Director of Community Health Karen Ayala will soon take over the department for Executive Director Maureen McHugh, whose last day will be Feb. 6, according to a department news release.
The Board of Health voted unanimously to promote Ayala durings its Dec. 12 meeting.
Ayala has worked for the Health Department since 2008, the release said. Her promotion will be effective Dec. 16.
"I look forward to working with our community partners and elected officials to ensure the Health Department remains at the forefront of innovation," said Ayala in a statement. "I am also humbled to be leading a dedicated and hard-working group of employees whose main goal each day is to ensure our residents have access to quality health care services."
Linda Kurzawa, president of the DuPage County Board of Health, credited the Health Department's current good standing to McHugh's work with the department, saying the board was "deeply appreciative" of her tenure there.
"Under her dynamic leadership the agency is immersed in the community, on solid financial ground and able to meet the challenges of the future to make DuPage the healthiest county in the nation," said Kurzawa.
