York's Kathryn Wheeler passes the ball during a Nov. 27 game against Wheaton North. The Dukes begin holiday tournament play at Oswego East on Monday.

The three Elmhurst girls basketball teams have been all over the place this season. York is playing below expectations while Timothy Christian is still adapting to a completely new starting lineup and head coach. IC Catholic has seen the most early season success. The Dukes, Trojans and Knights will all be tested during their holiday tournaments.

York

Tournament: Oswego East Holiday Classic Tournament

Location: 1525 Harvey Road, Oswego

First game: 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, vs. Harlem

What to watch: The Dukes are just 3-8 despite having many returning players from last year’s 17-12 team. The holiday tournament could give them an opportunity to work out their issues on the court with four games in four days.

York’s tough schedule was respected by the coaches in the tournament, who gave the Dukes the No. 4 seed in the 16-team field. After opening against Harlem, the Dukes could face No. 5 seed and host Oswego East on the second day. Metea Valley, Joliet Central and Proviso East are the top three seeds, in order.

Seniors Molly Schlecht, Jenny Coffin and Paige Wrasse have led York in scoring so far this season.

IC Catholic

Tournament: Oswego East Holiday Classic Tournament

Location:1525 Harvey Road, Oswego

First game: 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, vs. Sycamore

What to watch: The Knights bring a winning record to this tournament, but will be tested by a field that includes 13 Class 4A schools.

IC is the only Class 2A school in the tournament, so it will be a rare chance to see the Knights go against the bigger schools. Their first opponent, Sycamore, received the No. 6 seed in the tournament.

Neighbors York are also in the tournament, but if the two Elmhurst schools don’t meet in the tourney, they will see each other at York on Jan. 4.

Timothy Christian

Tournament: Holiday Cage Classic

Location: Lisle High School, 1800 Short St., Lisle

First game:6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, vs. Wheaton Academy

What to watch: The Trojans have been up and down so far, but that may have been expected. Timothy has five new starters and a first-year coach in Michele Strube.

They open at Lisle against No. 3 seed Wheaton Academy. The small-school tournament should provide Timothy with plenty of good matchups.

Antioch is the top tourney seed followed by Coal City, Wheaton Academy and Hampshire.
