La Grange Park to increase building permit and inspection fees

LA GRANGE PARK – The Village Board approved the first increase in building permit and fire inspection fees in a decade last month in order to generate about $30,000 in additional revenue for the village.

The increases stem from the village’s overall Local Revenue Study Data Report and are intended to cover the village for costs incurred to process and review applications.

Residents planning to construct a garage will now have to pay $500, up from $100, while inspection for a new roof will cost $125 instead of $50. Inspections for fire code variations will also jump from $100 to $500.

The changes also include a higher deposit for building a new home, such as $2,500 for a single-family home instead of a $400 base fee.

The village’s current fee structure was adopted as part of a Building Code update in August 2003. Village staff mentioned increased financial demands from new state or federal building laws as another reason for the need to increase fees.
