DuPage County accepting applications for water quality grants

DuPage County Stormwater Management is accepting grant proposals for projects aimed at improving the water quality around the county, according to a county news release.

The Water Quality Improvement Program awards grants for projects exhibiting a regional benefit to water quality, including restoration and green infrastructure projects. Organizations and individuals may be funded for up to 25 percent of construction and maintenance costs for portions of undertaken projects, the release said.

In the past, grant money has been used for permeable parking lots, green roofs and wetland creation and restoration.

"For every bit of stormwater that is naturally absorbed and stored, our existing flood control structures are that much more effective," said Stormwater Committee Chairman Jim Zay in a statement.

The deadline for submissions is Jan. 10. For more information, visit www.dupageco.org.
