Prep roundup: Karlis triple-double powers Montini
Montini’s girls basketball team had little trouble with Suburban Christian Conference foe Aurora Central Catholic in a 58-21 victory Saturday. Kelly Karlis recorded a triple-double (17 points, 12 blocks, 11 rebounds).
Allison Hansen’s 20 points weren’t enough in a 54-45 DuPage Valley Conference loss to Lake Park on Tuesday.
The Blazers fell to 0-3 in the West Suburban Gold after losing to Morton (45-35) and Hinsdale South (58-36) in the past seven days.
Last weekend, the Knights won games on back-to-back days. IC defeated Chicago Christian 53-47 Friday with 14 points from Chiara Gaudio, 12 from Grace Vitek and 10 from Erin Maloney. On Saturday , the Knights beat Hinckley Big Rock 42-18.
St. Francis topped the Knights 44-42 on Tuesday despite 15 points from Vitek and 13 from Rory Manion.
The Trojans picked up their first conference win of the season 57-45 against Ridgewood on Saturday. They lost to defending league champ Riverside Brookfield 48-43 Tuesday, despite 16 points and 10 rebounds from Kaitlyn Gehrke.
The Broncos finished 1-3 at Aurora Christian’s Wilkie Classic tournament. After losing to St. Edward, the host Eagles and Joliet Catholic, Montini beat IMSA 51-29 Saturday.
After losing the conference opener to Hinsdale South, 55-41 on Dec. 6, the Warriors traveled up to Evanston for a game Tuesday. The lake shore wasn’t kind to Willowbrook. The Wildkits won 71-49.
After trailing by 11 points early in the first quarter, Timothy Christian’s boys basketball team came back to beat Glenbard South 63-62 in overtime Dec. 6. Connor VanderBrug had 18 points and Khali Valrie scored 15. Robert McGivney tallied a double-double with 13 rebounds and 11 points.
VanderBrug put on a show – 29 points, 13 rebounds – against Aurora Christian on Wednesday in a 72-67 victory.
The Knights had a 2-0 weekend with road wins over Marian Central and Somonauk. The win over Marian was the conference opener. IC next plays tonight at Chicago Christian.
The Rams picked up five dual wins to win the Oswego Invite on Saturday. East beat Bloom (51-21), Palatine (75-0), Oak Lawn (62-8), Oswego East (46-25) and Lincoln Way East (41-27). Glenbard East then knocked off Naperville North 34-31 in a DuPage Valley Conference match Wednesday.
The Broncos went 3-0 in matches on Saturday. Montini claimed wins over Bowen (62-12), Morgan Park (62-0) and Mount Carmel (40-27).
The Warriors dropped four duals at Plainfield North on Saturday, but sophomore Matt Rowland maintained his undefeated record. The 152-pounder improved to 17-0 with 11 pins on the season.
The Rams took sixth out of 12 teams at the Downers Grove North Invite on Saturday. They followed that up with a 133.45-113.6 win over Andrew on Monday.
The Blazers beat Glenbard South 121.25-108.5 Saturday.
