GLEN ELLYN – Benet junior quarterback Jack Beneventi verbally committed to the University of Iowa Thursday night.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound Glen Ellyn resident announced his intent via Twitter at 7:01 p.m. Thursday. He chose the Hawkeyes over offers from several schools, including Illinois, Notre Dame, Louisville, and Western Michigan.

"I have committed to the University of Iowa!" Beneventi Tweeted. "I want to thank everyone for their support."

Although 2014 football signing day is about two months away, Beneventi came to a decision after visiting multiple college campuses this fall.

The pro-style pocket passer will start his third straight season under center for Benet next fall before graduating in 2015.

As a sophomore, Beneventi led the Redwings to a 11-2 record and a trip to the 7A state semifinals. This season, he threw for roughly 1,400 yards, but the team faltered down the stretch and lost their final four games.

In the weeks leading up to his announcement, Beneventi narrowed his selection to Iowa and Illinois.
