Nazareth’s boys basketball team came up with a 61-49 win over Ridgewood on Friday with 19 points and six steals from Mike Brooks. Evan McLaughlin added eight points and eight rebounds.
A day later Naz took down Taft 67-38 with 21 points from Chris Swade and 12 from John Mazur.
Thanks to a career-high 24 points from Mike Smith, Fenwick beat De La Salle 67-55 in its Chicago Catholic League conference opener on Thursday. Normal U-High knocked the Friars off 62-57 on Saturday.
The Panthers dropped the West Suburban Silver opener 66-58 to York on Friday.
The Chargers opened Chicago Catholic League play with a 76-49 win over St. Francis de Sales. Glynn Watson led the way with 18 points. Joffrey Brown scored 16 and Jordan Ash added 12.
The Lions opened conference play with a 50-39 loss to Proviso West on Saturday. LT rebounded Tuesday with a win over rival Hinsdale Central. Sophomores Nina Scaramella and Frannie Corrigan each had 15 points in a 69-63 victory.
The Mustangs are 1-1 in the West Suburban Gold. Morton dropped the conference opener to Hinsdale South, 56-50, on Dec. 3, but beat Addison Trail 45-35 on Saturday.
RB still sports an undefeated record. The Bulldogs defeated Fenton 51-41 in the Metro Suburban Conference opener on Dec. 3. Janae Dabney scored 21 points and Dana Rettke blocked 10 shots. RB never trailed in the game and led by as many as 20 points in the third quarter. On Tuesday RB improved to 8-0 with a 48-43 win at Timothy Christian.
After dropping the conference opener on Dec. 4 to Marian Catholic, 66-30, the Roadrunners bounced back with a 66-52 win over Taft on Saturday. Tre Cross scored 19 points and hauled in nine rebounds, Devinne Love contributed 16 points and Jules Raimondi added 12 points and five rebounds.
Losses to Marist and Providence were not the start to East Suburban Catholic Conference play the Friars envisioned, but they did bounce back with an unusually low-scoring win, 38-35, over Loyola on Saturday.
The Panthers are off to a 2-0 start in the West Suburban Silver with road wins over Glenbard West (53-32) and Lyons Township (50-39).
After losing 37-35 to Regina on Thursday, the Chargers dropped a 70-35 game to Joliet Catholic Saturday.
The Lions knocked off Glenbard West 38-16 in the West Suburban Silver opener on Friday. A.J Villarreal, Ezra Avery and Johnny Howorth won by fall for LT.
The Bulldogs went 3-1 in duals over the weekend. RB beat Nazareth (49-18), Kennedy (51-12) and Hubbard (43-28), but lost to Vernon Hills (34-28).
Mike Kozyra claimed his second tournament title of the season by taking first at 170 pounds at the Hinsdale South tournament over the weekend.
The Lions won the 12-team Big Purple Invitational at Downers Grove North on Saturday. LT scored 111.3 points with only three scores counting per event as opposed to the usual four. Kelsy Kurfirst was the top all-around gymnast with a score of 37.625. Katie Carling (36.90) was third and Michelle Cozza (36.775) was fourth.
The Bulldogs beat the Mustangs 116.05-90.5 in a dual on Thursday. RB picked up a second straight win by defeating Hinsdale South 107.3-100.65 on Saturday. Lacey Smith had the top all-around score against Hinsdale South with a 33.65.
