Letter: Little league season is fast approaching in Riverside
Little League season is approaching in Riverside
To the Editor:
We know it’s only December, but Little League season is fast approaching.
Riverside Little League has opened registration for T-ball, baseball and softball, and it will remain open through Jan. 18, 2014. We’ve begun the process earlier, so that we can announce teams (and get uniforms to players) sooner than we have in the past.
There are some changes underway. First, we’d like to thank the village of Riverside Recreation Board for our ongoing partnership. With Riverside Little League’s input, the recreation department improved playing conditions at Big Ballpark last summer, including improved and safer fencing on the field and dugouts.
We will continue to work with the recreation board toward our new goals: shading for the dugouts at Big Ballpark and Harrington; larger dugouts and fencing at Indian Gardens; high-tech batters’ boxes and pitchers’ mounds that will drain better than the current fields; and other projects. Watch for fundraisers that will support these improvements.
Another change is that Little League International now allows children to play in the town in which they attend school. This new rule enables boys and girls at St. Mary’s, Ames Elementary and Hauser Junior High schools who don’t live in the village to play with their friends in Riverside.
We encourage you to sign up your child for baseball, softball or T-ball now. And, as always, we are looking for our businesses and other community members to support the league. Information about registration and team sponsorship is also available on our website at www.
