Benjamin Franklin School in Glen Ellyn named 'Exemplar School'

Published: Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 12:50 p.m. CST

GLEN ELLYN – Glen Ellyn School District 41's Benjamin Franklin School is the only Illinois elementary school to be named an "Exemplar School" by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21), according to a district news release.

The Exemplar program recognizes 21st century learning practices that are improving student learning across the nation.

P21 selected 25 schools for the program after visiting the schools to meet with teachers and administrators and observe instruction. These schools represent the first chosen by P21, as the organization continues its efforts to honor exemplary 21st century learning.

One aspect of learning in District 41 that sets it apart from other school districts is its strength in problem-based learning (PBL), according to the release. PBL uses real-world problems that are relevant to students to help them learn.
