BOLINGBROOK – A mother and son died in an apparent murder-suicide the day after Thanksgiving, according to the Bolingbrook Police Department.

At about 5:45 p.m. Nov. 29, Bolingbrook police made a forced entry into a residence in the 100 block of

Lakeshore Drive after obtaining substantial information during an investigation with suspicious circumstances, according to Bolingbrook Police Department Lt. Mike Rompa.

Upon entering the home belonging to 69-year-old Alicia R. Coronel, police found the homeowner and her son, 37-year-old Anthony E. Rataiczyk, dead from apparent gunshot wounds, according to Rompa.

Both Coronel and Rataiczyk were pronounced dead on the scene, Rompa said.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that Rataiczyk shot and killed his mother before turning the gun on himself, according to police. He is believed to be the only offender, police said.
