Village of Downers Grove offers Christmas light recycling

DOWNERS GROVE – The village is reminding residents not to throw away their tangled, frayed or burned-out Christmas lights this year.

In support of the village's goal to be "green" mindful and sustainable, the village will offer recycling of Christmas tree lights and extension cords. A receptacle is available at the Public Works Facility, 5101 Walnut Ave. through Feb. 1.

Items can be dropped off during business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Acceptable items include:

• Mini-lights (also known as Italian lights)
• C7 lights
• C9 lights
• Rope lights
• LED lights
• Extension cords

Downers Grove is partnering with Elgin Recycling to offer the service.
