IC Catholic’s boys basketball team made it to the championship game of the Westminster Thanksgiving tournament, but lost to St. Edward 60-57.
The same two teams met in the final of the same tournament a year ago, and the Green Wave won that game, as well.
Rhashaun Epting led the Knights with 17 points against St. Edward. Clark Brinkman scored 14 and Anthony Taylor added 12. Epting and Brinkman were both all-tournament picks for the Knights, which defeated Luther North, Faith Lutheran and Indian Creek in pool play.
The Knights play on the road tonight at 6:30 p.m. against Marian Central Catholic and tomorrow at 3 p.m. against Somonauk at the Amboy Shootout.
The Trojans went 1-2 at the Lisle Thanksgiving tournament to start the season. Timothy lost to University High School 52-44 and Perspectives-MSA 48-46 before beating the host Lions 42-22 on Saturday.
Senior forward Connor VanderBrug was named to the all-tournament team.
After starting the season 3-0 to advance to the final of the Knights Thanksgiving Invite, IC fell to Nazareth 61-52. The Knights opened Suburban Christian Conference play with a 52-48 loss at Marian Central on Tuesday.
The Trojans opened Metro Suburban Conference play with a 61-17 loss to Glenbard South on Tuesday.
The Dukes were seventh in their first meet of the season, the Hornet Invitational at Hinsdale South. York scored 105.1 points with Kelly Mordini leading the way with a 31.1 all-around score.
