Holiday festivities coming to Bloomingdale

Published: Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 1:40 p.m. CDT

BLOOMINGDALE – Old Town Bloomingdale will be aglow starting Nov. 29, when the holiday season begins in the village with the Festival of Lights, according to a news release from the Bloomingdale Park District.

The festival is the result of a partnership between the village and the park district, the release said. Mayor Franco Coladipietro and Park Board President Buzz Puccio will “flip the switch” on the display at 6:30 p.m. at Old Town Park, 111 Third St., Bloomingdale.

The event will feature holiday craft workshops, carolers, horse drawn carriage rides, live reindeer and an ice sculpture demonstration, according to the release.

Other seasonal programming in the village includes “The 12 Days of Christmas" and "LEGO Working Train Display & Games," two holiday shows at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum, 108 S. Bloomingdale Road. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available during museum hours, the release said.

Additionally, the district will host its annual Winter Carnival from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Johnston Recreation Center, 172 S. Circle Ave.

Inflatable amusements, mini train rides, cookie decorating, performances and an appearance by Santa Claus will be among the carnival's attractions.

Carnival wristbands cost $5 for children ages 2 to 17 years if purchased prior to Dec. 13 and $10 if purchased the night of the event.

Wristbands can be bought at the recreation center.
