Lombard names Scott Niehaus as next village manager
LOMBARD – The Village of Lombard named current Tinley Park Village Manager Scott R. Niehaus as its next village manager this week.
Niehaus will begin as Lombard village manager Jan. 21.
Niehaus, 42, served as village manager in Tinley Park since 2003. Prior to village manager, he was assistant village manager of Tinley Park for four years. Before Tinley Park, Niehaus worked for the Village of Elk Grove for six years.
“I look forward to working under the direction of the village board to address the stated goals of the village including continued economic development efforts, improved communication with the public, the development of staff and a resolution on the future of the Westin Hotel property,” Niehaus said in a statement. “Overall, I hope to assist the village board in maintaining and improving the excellent quality of life and services available to the citizens of Lombard."
Niehaus grew up in Elmhurst and said taking the new position will allow him to “come home” to roots in DuPage County and be closer to family and friends who reside in the area. Niehaus said his parents currently live in Lombard.
Lombard Village President Keith Giagnorio said in a news release the board was impressed by Niehaus’ qualifications and 10 years of experience as a village manager.
The board is set to take action on Niehaus’ employment contract at its regular meeting Dec. 5.
As village manager of Tinley Park, Niehaus oversaw the expansion of the Tinley Park Convention Center, directed the redevelopment and construction of two Metra railroad stations and helped implement neighborhood drainage improvement programs resulting in the removal of more than 1,000 homes from FEMA’s regulatory flood plain, according to the release.
He also helped develop a fiscal policy document that enabled the Village of Tinley Park to obtain a bond rating upgrade to AA+ during the recent recession.
Niehaus has a Master of Public Administration from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts from Augustana College.
His salary with the Village of Lombard will be $165,000.
Lombard’s previous Village Manager David Hulseberg announced his retirement in June. Hulseberg served in the role since 2008.
