Fire destroys landmark building in Lyons

An early morning fire on Friday destroyed the vacant Chamber of Commerce building in Lyons at 3901 Joliet Ave.

LYONS – A blaze that broke out at about 2:30 a.m. Friday morning in Lyons has destroyed the village's former Chamber of Commerce building.

The vacant building, located at 3901 Joliet Ave., will have to be torn down, Fire Chief Gordon Nord told reporters.

According to Nord, firefighters could see flames shooting through the building's windows when they arrived. Area fire departments assisted in battling the fire, which was extinguished at about 6 a.m.
