Village of Downers Grove collecting used cooking oil after Thanksgiving

DOWNERS GROVE – The Village of Downers Grove is inviting residents to recycle their cooking oil used in turkey fryers this Thanksgiving.

From 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 30, residents can drop off their used cooking oil in a milk jog, bucket or its original container at village hall, 801 Burlington Ave.

The oil will then be recycled into clean-burning biofuel for vehicles.

For more information, call SCARCE at 630-545-9710.

No motor is being accepted, and residents will take home the container they bring the liquid in.

Cooking oil can stick to sewer pipes, casing clogs and breaks that are costly for homeowners and cities to fix. Grease can also interfere with water treatment at our sanitary facilities.
