Eight LT swimmers compete at state; Fenwick claims third

Eight individuals and all three relays competed for Lyons Township at the state swimming meet over the weekend, although none of them made it to Saturday’s finals.

Junior diver Kimmy Vitek was LT’s top finisher, coming in 13th place and missing the finals by one spot.

Kelly Ryser (25th in diving), Lauren Rosenberger (35th in the 200-yard freestyle and 26th in the 500 freestyle), Elizabeth Murphy (34th in the 50 freestyle), Mackenna Dunn (37th in the 200 freestyle and 39th in the 100 freestyle), Maggie Ferguson (34th in the 200 individual medley and 51st in the 100 breaststroke), Kristen Young (51st in the 50 freestyle) and Maeve Swineheart (47th in the 100 butterfly) also swam at state.

The 200 free relay was LT’s top relay, taking 19th.

Senior Sydney Veon was 52nd in the state prelims of the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.76

Fenwick

Texas-bound senior Mimi Schneider led the Friars to a third place trophy at the state meet over the weekend. Schneider won the 50-yard freestyle (22.87 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (53.86). Senior Paulina Kaminski won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.40) and was second in the 200 individual medley. Maggie Sheean was the Friars’ only other individual finalist, taking 10th in the 100 freestyle. Two relays, the 200 medley and the 400 freestyle, were second. The 200 freestyle relay was eighth.
