Oakbrook Center to unveil renovations at Holiday Spectacular

OAK BROOK – The culmination of a two-year construction effort to renovate Oakbrook Center will be unveiled Friday in time for the holiday shopping season.

"Malls are always looking to reinvent themselves," Chuck Fleming, senior general manager, said in September. "Our common area had been around for over 50 years, and it was time to spruce it up and enhance what we were successful at and bring in some newer amenities to the customers."

The Holiday Spectacular and unveiling will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Oakbrook Center, at the new Village Green near Crate & Barrel and Macy's, according to a news release.

Besides displaying the new features, the event will include a photo opportunity with live reindeer, children's holiday crafts, strolling carolers and refreshments from Oakbrook Center restaurants.

At 7:15 p.m., there will be an illuminated lantern night processional finished by a pyrotechnic show and a music and fire performance by D.J. Fire playing techno-inspired holiday tunes, according to the release.

Located at the corner of Route 83 and 22nd Street in Oak Brook, the mall renovations will include new landscape beds, fountains, new lighting, trees and bushes, fire totems, a village green area to use for promotions and possible movies in the park and an amenities pavilion, which will have a warming area with a fire place in the winter and cooling area in the summer, Fleming said.
