WHEATON – After months of construction, both lanes of the North Main Street bridge are open to motorists, according to a news release from the city.

Since May, the southbound lane of the street has been closed as part of the North Main Street Flood Control Project. Crews worked to turn the section into a full bridge, widening the channel and stabilizing the stream bank.

These efforts are an attempt to help convey storm water downstream to Northside Park to reduce the frequency of flooding on North Main Street, the release said.

The area is still under construction, as work to place additional layers of pavement and install sidewalks will continue. Drivers are advised to to use caution while traveling through the work zone.
