GLEN ELLYN – The village of Glen Ellyn has been named a winner of the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

In order to receive the award, the village had to satisfy a number of guidelines related to how well the budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device, according to a village news release.

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in those four categories, as well as in the 14 criteria included within the categories, to receive the award.

As part of the honor, Glen Ellyn's Finance Department was given a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation, accepted by Finance Director Kevin Wachtel.

For fiscal year 2012, more than 1,340 entities received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award throughout North America.

The GFOA is a nonprofit association that serves about 17,400 government finance professionals across the continent. Its Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting, according to the release.

Glen Ellyn's budget is available online at or in print at the Civic Center, 535 Duane St., and the Glen Ellyn Public Library, 400 Duane St.
