DOWNERS GROVE – The western suburbs are expected to see severe thunderstorms and possibly tornadoes mid-day Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

A tornado watch is in effect until 4 p.m. and a high wind warning will continue until 8 p.m., the service said.

Also in effect is a flash flood warning until 3:30 p.m.

There is an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday afternoon, according to the service. Storms could include damaging winds between 25 to 30 mph, with gusts of up to 45 mph.

Winds are expected to decrease to 15 or 20 mph after midnight.

The service said that parts of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa and Missouri are facing what is identified as a “particularly dangerous situation.” This could include rapidly moving tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, large hail and damaging winds.
