LYONS – A local mother is being investigated after the death of her 2-month-old son, according to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Michael Padilla died at about 3 a.m. Saturday in his Lyons home, in the 4500 block of South Pulaski Avenue, according to the Office of the Cook County Medical Examiner. An autopsy has been performed, but the cause of death is pending further investigation, the office said.

Michael's mother is being investigated for allegations of neglect, according to department spokesperson Karen Hawkins. His siblings have been placed with relatives under a department-monitored safety plan.

No prior reports have been made involving the Padilla family, Hawkins said. The department hopes to release more information in the coming week.
