Wheaton North falls in quarterfinals to Lake Zurich

WHEATON – Playing in a steady downpour throughout the game, Wheaton North could never get its offense on track in a 16-6 loss to Lake Zurich Saturday night in a Class 7A quarterfinal game.

The Falcons ended the 2013 campaign with a 9-3 record while the Bears advance to take on Glenbard West in the semis.

After a scoreless first quarter, Dillon Schassler put the visitors in front for good with a 32-yard touchdown run.

A 35-yard field goal shortly near the end of the second quarter increased the margin to 9-0 at halftime.

Then, on its first possession of the third quarter, QB Noah Allgood found Ben Klett for a 48-yard touchdown pass and a 16-0 advantage.

Wheaton North would slice the margin to 16-6 on a one-yard TD pass from Clayton Thorson to Jake Heggeland with 5:47 left in the third quarter but the two-point conversion failed.

The Falcons would get a couple of other opportunities to further cut into the lead but a pair of turnovers would spoil any hopes of a comeback.
