LA GRANGE – U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski of Western Springs recognized Palmer Place restaurant for its 30th anniversary with an official statement in the House of Representatives on Nov. 7.

House members listened to Lipinski share the history of the restaurant, which Ruth Palmer started in 1982 after returning from a trip to Germany. Palmer was inspired by the trip to open the first beer garden in Chicago’s western suburbs. The restaurant became instrumental in reviving downtown La Grange and has remained a staple on La Grange Road during the village’s growth.

Although the restaurant has expanded from eight employees in 1982 to 126 now, Lipinski noted it remains family owned and involved in the community.

On Oct. 27, Lipinski and his wife, Judy, participated in a special event at Palmer Place celebrating the restaurant’s 30th anniversary and the 80th birthday of founder Ruth Palmer.
