Arab engineers group presents public service award

OAK BROOK – Commissioner Mariyana Spyropoulos was awarded the Public Service Award by the Arab American Association of Engineers & Architects (AAAEA) at its annual awards dinner Nov. 13 in Oak Brook.

The sold-out event was attended by a record 325 AAAEA members and supporters as Spyropoulos was presented with the plaque honoring her work and continued commitment to civic engagement.

Spyropoulos presented to the group on the history of MWRD, as well as the work it does, including water treatment, stormwater management and contract opportunities. During her presentation, she described various photos and drawings such as the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant and a water crib from 1867.

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago was established in 1889 and is an award-winning, special purpose government agency responsible for wastewater treatment and stormwater management, according to a news release.
