ELMHURST – The Illinois Sustainable Technology Center honored the Elmhurst Park District with the Governor's Sustainability Award.
Elmhurst was the only park district to receive the award this year. Many of its green initiatives exemplify sustainable activity, according to a news release, including energy audits at The Hub in Berens Park and Wagner Community Center, as well as recycling the old Berens Park West Playground to an orphanage in Thailand.
The Elmhurst Park District first received the Governor's Sustainability Award in 2010 and again in 2011.
This year, the park district was recognized for its significant achievements in protecting the environment, helping to sustain the future, and improving the economy, according to the release.
