RIVERSIDE – Riverside residents will now be able to apply for a special use permit to start a bed and breakfast from their home following a vote made by the Board of Trustees at their public meeting Thursday night.
Under the rules unanimously adopted by the board, residents who wish to start a “B&B” must have their permit request approved at two public meetings. The first meeting will be before the village's Planning Commission.
“Having a public meeting before the Planning Commission gives residents an opportunity to comment on their concerns or support for a Bed and Breakfast in that location,” Village Attorney Michael Marr, who presented the plan to the board, said.
Following a recommendation by the Planning Commission to the Village Board, the board will have the final say as to whether a bed and breakfast would be appropriate at the particular location proposed.
The previous plan limited bed and breakfast sites to certain sections of town, but now all residents are able to apply.
