York Township officials received a welcomed gift from a local organization this week.

The VFW Lilac Post 5815 on Tuesday presented York Township Supervisor John Valle with a black POW-MIA flag. The gift will be hung beneath the American flag on a 30-foot flag pole outside the township office, 1502 S. Meyers Road in Lombard.

Earlier this year, the VFW post inquired if the township would fly the flag if one were presented, according to a release from the township.

"We are grateful for the service of our veterans and we are proud to fly the POW-MIA flag in honor of those who have sacrificed so much to keep our country free," Valle said.
