Ken Loch rezoning petition passes county zoning board of appeals
The DuPage County Zoning Board of Appeals approved a petition Thursday from a real estate developer requesting the rezoning of the Ken Loch Golf Links property near Lombard.
The board voted 6-1 to approve the petition at its recommendation meeting. Board Trustee Thomas Laz was the lone dissenting vote.
Naperville-based Donven Homes is seeking approval to rezone the 31-acre golf course to allow multi-family home developments on the site. Currently, the land is only zoned for single family homes.
In two previous public hearings, the developer outlined its plan to build townhome and condo units on the for-sale golf course. At the most recent hearing, on Oct. 10, about two dozen Lombard residents expressed their reservations with the rezoning.
The Lombard Village Board of Trustees also objects to the rezoning. Donven first approached the board with its plan more than a year ago.
With a motion on the table at Thursday's meeting, Laz outlined his concerns.
"I am at a loss to see how you can add 2,000 to 3,000 people to this amount of land that (exits) with one stoplight, and have no impact on traffic and the surrounding schools," Laz said.
Donven representatives claim, per a study conducted, that the traffic increase would not be large enough to negatively affect the area.
The recommendation for redevelopment will now be presented to the county development committee, and if approved, will go to the County Board for a final vote.
