Couple honored for volunteer work at DuPage Historical Museum

Naperville residents Jean and Jerry Gieraltowski, who have volunteered 2,937 hours for the DuPage County Historical Museum since 2001, have been named the 2013 Volunteers of the Year by the Illinois Association of Museums, according to a news release from the Wheaton Park District.

Jean first volunteered as a front desk worker at the museum. The two began cataloging material in the museum's vertical files in 2007, the release said.

“It’s a very important museum because of the interesting permanent and changing exhibits," Jean said in a statement. "It’s specific to early DuPage settlers, which is unique; it’s important for people to know how DuPage began."
