Prep roundup: East’s Peters, Montini girls XC to state

The Addison Trail-Willowbrook co-op girls swimming team celebrates its West Suburban Gold title at Downers Grove South on Saturday.

Glenbard East’s Jack Peters crossed the finish line in 13th place at the Lake Park cross country sectional to earn a place at the state race at Detweiller Park in Peoria tomorrow. The Rams were 13th as a team.



Jimmy Funteas was 16th overall, and one place and two seconds short of qualifying for state at the Lake Park sectional on Saturday.


The Broncos took 13th at the Class 1A Lisle sectional. Montini’s top runner was Tyler Pacana, who placed 30th.



Brittany Fisher’s fourth-place finish helped the Broncos take third at the Class 2A Wheaton Academy sectional and qualify for the state race.

Maggie Hallerud (13th) and Gianna Salzbrunn (14th) also had good runs for Montini.

Glenbard East

The Rams took 15th at the Lake Park sectional.

Sophomore Yoselin Toledo finished 47th, crossing the finish line first for Glenbard East.


Jocelyn Rodriguez (88th) led four Warrior runners at the Lake Park sectional.



The Broncos took the first game off Class 3A defending champion St. Francis in the Timothy Christian regional final Oct. 31, but the Spartans came back for the win. Montini lost 25-21, 15-25, 18-25 to end the year 29-4.


Addison Trail/Willowbrook co-op

The AT-WB co-op captured its first outright conference title at the West Suburban Gold meet at Downers Grove South on Saturday. AT-WB won nine events with senior Molly Kuenstler and junior Kelly McNamara winning four each. McNamara set a new conference record in the 100-yard butterfly.
